Police mount search for assailants of Revenue Collectors

Twifo Praso (C/R), March 12, GNA – The Twifo Praso Police are looking for some inhabitants of Som Nyame Kodur, a village in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District alleged to have attacked and assaulted four revenue collectors of District Assembly. They are Stephen Baidoo, Thomas Adabor, Joseph Odum and George Danso.

Chief Inspector George Okine of the Twifo Praso Police, told the GNA that on February 1 this year, the revenue collectors went to the village to collect special taxes from artisans. He said on their arrival at the village the collectors went to the house of one Madam Kadjia Issa, a seamstress to demand the special tax of 40,000.00 cedis, but she refused to pay on grounds that the assembly had done nothing for the village.

Inspector Okine said this resulted in an exchange of words between Madam Issa and the collectors, and in the process, a group of residents yet to be identified attacked and beat the collectors up. The woman was assisting Police investigations, he said .
