Police Chief threatens to kill CID officer over wee

The Dodowa District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Issah Mohammed Cantona is alleged to have attempted to kill a Police Officer at Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region over marijuana (wee).

The victim, a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer, Inspector Paul Nyarko with the Oda District Police, two years ago arrested some suspects with large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be wee. But DSP Cantona, who was then the Police Commander for the area, allegedly took bribe from the suspects and set them free.

Later, the Police Commander took the wee exhibit and sold it to a drug dealer in the district but this did not go down well with the CID officer and thus proceeded to report the matter to the higher authorities in the Police Service.

The matter was later taken over by the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS) for about a year leading to the transfer of DSP Cantona from Oda District to Dodowa.

Information gathered by Daily Heritage indicated that the Police Commander last Saturday chased the CID officer, Inspector Paul Nyarko who was on a motorbike at Akyem Oda with his private car in an attempt to knock down and kill the CID operative.

Some eyewitnesses said the Police Commander, having spotted Inspector Nyarko riding the motorbike, chased him at top speed but the CID officer quickly swerved the Police Commander and jumped into the bush.

The incident which occurred at Akyem Oda Mascourt road attracted some residents to the scene. According to some residents, the Police Commander allegedly threatened to kill the CID officer if he dared him.

The CID officer has since reported the incident to the Akyem Oda District Police office for the necessary action to be taken. Attempts to get the Dodowa Police Commander for his side of the story were not successful.
