Residents and businesses in parts of Ghana’s Ashanti Region will face planned power interruptions from Friday, October 30, 2026, while work continues on the 161kV Anwomaso–Ahodwo (K1–K2) Transmission Line Upgrade Project.
The outages, announced jointly by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), will run until Sunday, November 29, 2026, excluding weekends.
The utilities said the interruptions are required to allow engineers to safely carry out critical work involving the stringing of transmission conductors on towers along the route of the project.
Power will be switched off between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on designated weekdays, with the specific dates depending on when construction reaches the relevant sections of the transmission line.
ECG is expected to release a detailed timetable showing the communities affected and the dates on which their electricity supply will be interrupted. The schedule is intended to help households, businesses and other consumers prepare for the planned outages.
GRIDCo and ECG said the temporary power cuts are necessary to protect engineers, other project staff and members of the public during the conductor-stringing operations.
The project is being carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and is currently 70 per cent complete. It is scheduled to be finished by the end of November 2026.
In their joint statement on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the two companies acknowledged that the interruptions could disrupt domestic and commercial activities. They appealed to residents, businesses and other electricity consumers in the affected areas to remain patient and co-operate with project teams.
They said the upgrade was important for strengthening the transmission network and improving the reliability of electricity supplies in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
The Anwomaso–Ahodwo transmission line upgrade is part of wider efforts to improve electricity transmission infrastructure in the Ashanti Region and provide a more reliable power supply to consumers.
GRIDCo and ECG apologised for the inconvenience and assured the public that they remained committed to completing the work safely and within the scheduled timeframe.
