Photos: Mahama arrives US for UN Session

President John Dramani Mahama arrived in New York on Saturday with his wife Lordina Mahama, to attend the 69th United Nations General Assembly session.

He is expected to join his colleagues in the general Assembly deliberations, hold bilateral talks with other leaders and make a case for investment in Ghana and the West African Sub-region as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States.

The theme of the 69th General Assembly Session is: “Delivering on, and implementing a Transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda.”

The President was met on arrival by Ambassador Ken Kanda, Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, a Deputy Minister of Communications, and Dr. Kpessah Whyte, a presidential staffer with others.

President Mahama is also expected to deliver some lectures at the Harvard University on “Economic Governance in Unchartered Waters” on September 26, and on September 27 give another lecture at the Brandeis University on “The Promise of Africa”.

President Mahama would also state his position on the embargo on Cuba and co-host a programme with the Swiss President on the theme: “Shaping the Future- Ending AIDS by 2030.”

He would also attend a programme with President Barrack Obama and Ban Ki Moon on the United Nations Climate Change Policy.

The President would also make a case on the plight of Ebola patients in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra and seek remedial measures that would stem the spread of the viral disease in the Sub-region.

He is also expected to host and chair a meeting on Energy Efficiency before travelling to the United Arab Emirates to attend “Africa Global Forum” in Dubai, on October 1.

President Mahama would return to Ghana in the first week of October.
