Peprah, Others File For Bail

The Court of Appeal would today hear an application for bail filed by former Finance Minister, Kwame Peprah and two others jailed for causing financial loss to the state. The three, who have appealed against Justice Kwame Afreh?s ruling, are arguing that the offence for which they were charged is not based on any written law and infringes on the provision of Article 19, clause 11 of the constitution.

The convicted former public officials say they consider their continued incarceration on grounds that are not defined by written law as unconstitutional. In their application for bail, lawyers for the three say it will be unjust to hold their clients if the appeal will not be heard before the legal vacation which starts on the 1st of August to the second week of October.

Ibrahim Adam, former Minister of Agriculture; Dr George Sipa-Yankey, former Director at the Finance Ministry and Kwame Peprah were last April sentenced to various terms of imprisonment in connection with the Quality Grain project at Aveyime in the Volta Region.
