Party leaders urged to guard against negative utterances

Nkoranza (B/A), July 23, GNA – Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom 1V, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, has urged the leadership of political parties to advise their followers to guard against negative attitudes and utterances during the electioneering campaigns.

The Omanhene deplored the use of provocative statements and insults by some party members against opponents and cautioned that such behaviour could trigger trouble and violence.

“Ghana is a peaceful country and we should not allow party politics to divide us, as that would have an adverse effect on national development”, he said.

Okatakyie Agyeman-Kudom gave the advice when former President Jerry John Rawlings called on him at his palace as part of a three-day National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign tour of Brong Ahafo Region

The Omanhene referred to the political crises in Rwanda, Uganda, Liberia and La Cote D’Ivoire and prayed that God should save Ghana from such situations.

Former President Rawlings promised never to encourage or support any negative attitudes and practices that would set back national progress.

He noted that even though Nananom could not actively participate in party politics, they had the authority to advise the people to choose between good and bad policies of political parties.
