Parliament to deliberate on Job 600

A Joint Caucus meeting is expected to be held next Wednesday to deliberate on issues relating to the movement of MPs into Job 600 office block and other welfare matters, Mr Alfred Kwame, Vice Chairman of the Business Committee has announced.

“The Business Committee takes this opportunity to entreat the House Committee to as a matter of urgency, hold a prior meeting to iron out contentious issues before the Joint Caucus meeting,” the Vice Chairman added.

In a Business Statement presented for next week on the floor of the House, Mr Agbesi encouraged all members to be in attendance to contribute during the deliberations.

The expected discussion comes in the wake of the delayed movement of the legislators into the building scheduled for June 1, 2015.

Minority Leader Alban Bagbin, had in last May, said movement into the new offices of the Job 600 Building would be in batches, adding that, Members of Parliament (MPs), who have ministerial positions-which come with offices-would have to share offices in the edifice.

MPs without ministerial positions will be given priority.

Leadership of the House will be the last to move in, he said.

The expected briefing of the House on the recent demolition exercise at Old Fadama (Sodom and Gomorrah) by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, scheduled for this week, has been rescheduled for next week.

Among the questions to be asked next week, to be answered by sector Ministers, include, ‘steps being taken by the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry to prevent floods in Accra and other regional capitals in the country’.

Issues about refuse dumps and the strength of bridges on some water courses would also engage the attention of the House next week.
