Owuraku Amofa, a former stalwart of the NDC who defected to the NPP in the run-up to the 2008 elections has announced his return to the ruling party.
The Former Deputy Minister of Tourism in the NDC Administration of President Jerry John Rawlings announced his decision before leading NDC figures yesterday at Koforidua at the residency of the Estern Regional Minister.
Present were President John Mahama, Party Chairman Kwabena Adjei, General-Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Organiser Yaw Gyan, Minister for Communication Dr. Omane Boamah and Eastern Regional Executives of the NDC.
The President is in the Eastern Region on a two day duty tour of the region.
Welcoming Owuraku Amofa, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General-Secretary of the NDC observed that he does not see what should hinder Amofa’s return to the NDC no matter his utterances after he quit the party when even those who said worse things against the party after leaving its ranks have returned to the party’s fold.
Owuraku Amofa helped formed the Eagle party which went into the Progressive Alliance with the NDC in the 1992 and 1996 elections. He however left the party unceremoniously in 2000 in anger over the decision by Prof. Mills not to choose Dr. Obed Asamoah as his Running mate for the 2000 Presidential election. He did not only leave the party but relocated to the United States of America with his family. Nothing was heard of Amofa since then until 2008 when he emerged at Kibi and announced his defection to the NPP.
