Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has expressed doubts about Otto Addo’s capacity to guide Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even as the team edges closer to qualification.
Ghana currently sit three points clear at the top of Group I with two matches remaining, following their crucial victory over Mali. The win has left Otto Addo’s side just one step away from securing a spot at the tournament.
But while results have gone in Ghana’s favour, performances on the pitch have raised concerns. Speaking in an interview with Wontumi Radio, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said Addo may not have the tactical depth required at the highest level.
“I’m sure Ghana is going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but Otto Addo is not a coach who can lead us to the tournament,” he said.
The seasoned politician pointed to Mali as the toughest side in Ghana’s group, though their slow start has left them out of contention. He dismissed Madagascar’s chances of overtaking Ghana, noting that they trail by three points with only two games left.
Ghana’s qualification fate will be decided in October, when they travel to face the Central African Republic before wrapping up their campaign with a home fixture against Comoros.
