Osafo Maafo: Judiciary scandal could affect investor confidence

Former Finance Minister, Nana Yaw Osafo Maafo has warned that the massive corruption scandal that has rocked the judiciary could affect the country’s economy by reducing investor confidence.

Speaking on Atinka FM, the former MP for Oda in the Eastern Region, explained the epic scandal which was captured on tape by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, could create a negative impression to investors that court judgments can easily be influenced with ease.

According to him, the last thing every investor want to see is a judiciary which lacks integrity adding that, investors do business based on trust so if such trust is breached, there must be assurance that justice will be served.

“Investors always know that they can have problems with their employers, partners, competitors and others… therefore the judicial system of that country is always an area of great concern to an investor”.

He added that the scandal is a big matter which should be handled with more seriousness.

Mr Osafo Maafo, who is also a former Sports Minister, questioned the roles of state investigative agencies like the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) since they are paid with taxpayers money to fight corruption.

“Why should Anas be the only source of things such as this while we have the BNI, EOCO and the rest?” he charged.
