Organized labour urged government to addressed the declinig economy

Organized Labour from all labour Unions in the Northern Region, numbering about three Hundred protestants, who were clad in the red unbars, others in the black and red attires, chanting amidst singing and dancing embarked on the demonstration christened as “The Declining Economy” urged the government of President John Dramani Mahama, to as a matter of urgency endeavour to addressed the declining economy, which has brought untold hardship to the Ghanaian populace.

The demonstrators took through the principal street within the Tamale Metropolis, before finally rounded up At the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, to present their petition to the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji A .B .A. Fusein, on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, who was apparently out of the region on some important assignment, on wards to be delivered to the president for their concerns be attended to.

Presenting the petition, The Regional Secretary of CLOSAC, Mr Ali Anaafor, who catalogue among other things to press Home their demands, enumerated as follows,

There should be an immediate stop to the attempt by the government to impose a pensions trust on public sector workers, An immediate action to be taken to addressed the widespread perception of corruption by the government officials, Government should ensure that TOR operate at full capacity, Railway sector should be revamp and the plight of the workers be addressed , Last but not the least, An immediate action by the government be taken to halt the depreciation of the Cedi and the rising cost of the living in Ghana.

On his part Alhaji. A.B.A Fuseini intimated that the demonstration is an ample testimony to the growing strength of our democracy as a country.

He said government would JAW- JAW with the Organized Labour to find a lasting solution to their challenges.

The Deputy Minister remarked that it is the collective quest of all and sundry to work together in generating enough revenue for the socio- economic advancement of the nation.

Alhaji. A .B. A. Fuseni, affirmed that the President John Dramani, Mahama, administration has demonstrated its willingness to prosecute those who are engaged in corrupt practices, citing GEEDA Saga which is currently before court for prosecution.

He however entreated workers across all spectrum to also endeavour to purged itself from corrupt practices, since available evidence attest to the fact that corruption is not only at doorstep of politicians.

Honourable Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseni, further assured them that government would live up to its bidden in managing the economy and also commended them the way and manner they conducted themselves throughout the demonstration.

Present at the Function were some officials of the NRCC, as well as The Organized Labour Unions who took part in the demonstration.
