One dead and 7 injured in accident

Agona Swedru, Oct 24, GNA – A 19-year-old coconut seller died in hospital and seven others sustained injuries when a mini bus and a salon car collided on the Agona Swedru/Abodom road.

Kwesi Quaidoo, who was walking on the side of the road, was knocked down by the mini bus when it skid off after the collision and was rushed to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital where he died soon on admission. Chief Inspector Victor Morchiah of the Swedru Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the accident occurred when the Mini Bus driver attempted to overtake a passenger car on the top of the hill at Gomoa Beseadze.

He said the salon car was being driven by one WO1 Francis Mensah of the 48 Engineer Regiment in Accra who was returning from his farm had his right leg fractured while the other occupant, Mr Kojo Oduro, a 26-year old native of Agona Nyakrom escaped unhurt. WO1 Mensah has been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra while the other six injured who were passengers on the mini bus are on admission at the hospital.

The body of Quaidoo has been deposited at the mortuary of the hospital, awaiting autopsy.

The Police are investigating the accident.
