Okyenhene To Face Contempt Charges

The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin and Mr Fred Asante, a member of the Council of State have been ordered to appear before a Koforidua High court to answer charges of contempt leveled against them.

The contempt charges are alleged to have emanated from Okyenehene’s refusal to abide by a court order which nullified his purported destoolment of the Chief of Akyem Nkwantanan, Barima Adanse Akyem Omane.

Earlier this year, the Okyenehene announced the destoolment of Barima Omane following a misunderstanding between the chief and his queen mother. Barima Omane however challenged his purported destoolment at a High Court and a motion for the stay was granted.

However, the Okyenehene is alleged to have defied the court and refused Barima Omane entry to the Council’s meetings.
