Okyenhene, Otumfuo ‘clash’ at JB’s funeral

The entourages of the Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II and that of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu reportedly clashed at the funeral grounds of the late JB Danquah at Akyem Tafo on Saturday.

The chaos, according to sources, started as the representatives of the Asantehene at the funeral led by Asamponhene, Oheneba Kwadwo Afoduor, refused to stand on their feet during the arrival of the Okyenhene at the funeral grounds, an occurrence which infuriated the bodyguards of the Okyenhene.

The bodyguards confronted the Asantehene’s entourage and threatened to remove the crown on the head of the Asamponhene sparking the scuffle.

According to Starr News’ Kojo Ansah it took the intervention of the police to stop a bloodshed as the followers of both traditional leaders snared at each other.

The funeral which was attended by high profile personalities including the flagbearer of opposition NPP, Nana Akuffo Addo, General Secretary of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia and a huge number of legislators and government officials was temporarily put on hold as police tried to avert the crisis.

A later attempt by the Otumfuo’s Asamponhene to broker peace with the Okyenhene proved futile as he was snubbed by the entourage of the Okyenhene.
