The Ghana Education Service (GES) says continuing students at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) are expected to return next week, more than two months after the school was temporarily closed.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, GES Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi said preparations were at an advanced stage for the students to resume their academic work.
Continuing students were sent home on August 5 after disturbances on the campus. The unrest followed an incident in which some students attacked Headmaster Zakaria Abdulai, accusing him of impregnating a female student, terminating the pregnancy and burying the foetus.
The GES said it would provide further information about the reopening when necessary.
First-year students, meanwhile, have remained at the school since September 18, when they reported for the academic year.
Headmaster interdicted as investigation continues
Zakaria Abdulai has been interdicted while investigations into the allegations of sexual misconduct continue.
The police have arrested him, taken his statement and granted him self-recognisance bail. The case docket has since been sent to the Attorney-General to allow the investigations to proceed.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has also requested that the case be transferred to the police Criminal Investigations Department headquarters in Accra.
