The National Youth Authority (NYA), under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Osman Ayariga, has organised a breast cancer screening exercise for its staff and members of the surrounding community.
The exercise took place at the forecourt of the Authority on Thursday, October 22, 2026, as part of efforts to promote early detection and increase awareness of the disease.
NYA staff took part fully in the screening, while community members also attended to access breast health checks. Their involvement extended the initiative beyond the Authority’s premises and widened access to the preventive healthcare activity.
The exercise was designed to encourage people to take a proactive approach to their health and to underline the importance of regular screening. Early detection of breast cancer can improve treatment outcomes, making timely checks and public awareness important in efforts to tackle the disease.
By involving both employees and residents, the initiative demonstrated the value of collective action in promoting health and wellbeing. It also provided an opportunity for the Authority to engage with members of the public on the importance of breast cancer awareness.
The NYA’s decision to open the exercise to community members helped reinforce the need for individuals to seek early checks and take steps to protect their health. It also reflected the role public institutions can play in supporting health education and preventive healthcare.
The screening forms part of broader efforts to build healthier communities through awareness and access to early checks. Through the exercise, the NYA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting understanding of breast cancer and encouraging regular screening among its staff and the wider public.
