Bel-Aqua vigil brings more than 1,000 people together for mental health awareness in Accra

More than 1,000 people attended Bel-Aqua’s Healing Together Vigil 4.0 at the Alliance Francaise in Accra on Friday, 16 October 2026, for an evening combining mental health discussions with music, comedy and community engagement.

The event was held under the theme “Every Mind Has a Story… Respond with Hope” and formed part of Bel-Aqua’s Take a Break initiative. It followed the Healing Together Walk on 3 October, continuing the campaign’s appeal for people to prioritise their mental wellbeing and support others.

A central message of the vigil was that encouraging people to share their experiences is only one part of the process. The way others respond to those stories is equally important.

The campaign promoted listening without judgement and urged people to approach difficult conversations with empathy, care and hope. Guests entered an experience zone that included a Story Wall, hydration stations and red-carpet interviews before Kwan Pa began the stage programme with a live performance.

Mental health discussion and live performances

Yaa Bitha moderated a panel discussion featuring Fafa Gozo, founder of the Dzidula Pink Foundation; Dr. Seth Mawusi-Asafo, a clinical psychologist and lecturer; Dr. Masha Bashiru, a senior clinical and health psychologist; and Jahara Osman, founder of the Mental Health Forum.

The panel brought together professional and advocacy perspectives, placing mental health conversations at the centre of an event that also featured entertainment.

Lekzy DeComic hosted the programme and provided comedy segments, while Mr. Drew, Kojo Blak and Efya delivered musical performances during the evening.

Bel-Aqua was represented by Christopher Addo-Sarkodie, Head of Marketing, and Oscar Adaadaare, Regional Sales Manager. Dr. Vivian Aba Dadzie, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Mental Health Authority, also addressed the gathering.

DJ Sleek took charge of the after-party, where attendees were able to relax, network and continue connecting with one another.

The vigil extended the work of the campaign’s earlier walk from Ayi Mensah to Peduase. That event included health screenings and gave participants direct access to psychologists and psychiatrists.

Together, the walk and vigil brought mental wellbeing into a community setting, combining opportunities for social connection with discussions about how people can offer meaningful support.

Through its Take a Break initiative, Bel-Aqua continues to encourage the public to create time for mental self-care.

The fourth vigil underlined the campaign’s main message: asking someone to tell their story should be accompanied by a willingness to listen and respond with hope.
