Obuasi Senior High Technical School will reopen on 20 October 2026 after traditional leaders directed that the institution resume operations following a prolonged closure.
The school was shut after an alleged sexual encounter between its headmaster and a student, a situation that has left pupils away from the classroom for almost four months.
Adansehene Kwamuhene, Nana Kwadu Kwakye II, confirmed the reopening date in an interview with GhanAkoma on Akoma 87.9 FM on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
He said traditional leaders had met stakeholders in Obuasi to discuss the circumstances surrounding the closure and determine the way forward.
As part of the arrangements before the school resumes, a priest will perform traditional rites intended to cleanse the area, Nana Kwadu Kwakye II said.
The length of the closure has caused frustration among parents, with one saying that neither the school authorities nor the Ghana Education Service (GES) had provided sufficient information about the situation.
The parent said their ward had been unable to attend school for nearly four months and that they had been forced to arrange lessons at home.
“My ward is at home for almost four months, and I’ve been conducting classes for my little girl, who always cries. I’ve planned to find her a different school because the case is worrisome,” the parent said.
The parent also raised concerns about the academic consequences of the shutdown, especially for Form Two students who were due to sit promotional examinations when the school was closed.
“We don’t even know if the Form Two students will be writing promotional exams or not because the closure occurred a few moments before the exams,” the parent said.
The uncertainty over whether those examinations will take place has added to parents’ concerns about the effect of the closure on students’ academic progress.
Parents are particularly worried about pupils preparing for examinations and other important school activities, after the prolonged disruption to teaching and learning.
