NPP leads in use of indecent expressions on radio

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been cited again for the use of 10 out of the 19 indecent remarks recorded between September 2nd – 8th, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), stated in Accra.

Members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made seven of such expressions, while a member of the National Democratic Party (NDP) made two of them.

According to MFWA Report Monitoring of Electoral Campaign Language on Radio,made available to Ghana News Agency in Accra, 19 indecent expressions were recorded.

Fourteen out of the 19 indecent expressions were unsubstantiated allegations leveled against specific individuals and political groupings. With the exception of one, all the indecent expressions were made by males.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, the NPP MP for Assin North Constituency, made five of the indecent expressions recorded.

According to MFWA statement signed by Professor Kwame Karikari, Executive Director, Mr. Agyapong made four (4) of them on his radio station, Oman FM.

MFWA embarked on the monitoring of electoral campaign language on radio with the aim of contributing to peaceful, free and fair elections in December 2012.

The exercise involves the daily monitoring of electoral campaign language on 31 radio stations selected for the project.
