NPP has good things for Ghanaians- Minister

The Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Papa Owusu Ankomah on Saturday said that Ghanaians would not regret for voting the NPP into power after the end of its four years term in office when most of the economic policies have started yielding good results.

Papa Ankomah, who mentioned only the HIPC as some of the policies, reiterated the call on Ghanaians to be patient with the government in its efforts to build the economy.

He said this when he represented the President, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor at a durbar of chiefs at Saltpond to mark the annual week-long “Odambea” festival of the chiefs and people of the Nkusukum traditional area of the Central Region.

The theme for the celebration of this year’s festival was: “Let us unite for the total development of Nkusukum”.

During the celebration of the festival, the people take stock of their past activities including development and plan for the coming year.

Papa Ankomah said very soon the government would start disbursement of money gained from HIPC to the 110 district assemblies for the provision of social amenities to improve the lot of the people.

The Minister thanked the people for voting for the party and praised them for the absence of chieftaincy dispute in the area, even though the region has many chieftaincy disputes.

He later presented six bottles of schnapps and two million cedis cash to the chiefs in connection with the celebration of the festival.

The chiefs, in turn gave the Minister a key, which indicated that he could always come to the area.

In a welcoming address, Okese Essandorh VIII, Omanhene of the area called for rehabilitation of roads at Saltpond township and expansion of the hospital at Saltpond.

He also called for the improvement of water and communication system at Saltpond.

Among those present were Mr Asamoah Boateng, Special Assistant at the Office of the President and the Central Regional Minister, Mr. Isaac Edumadze.
