Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 running mate, says the party’s national executive elections will be decided by its delegates, expressing confidence that they will make the right choice.
Speaking to our reporter during the NPP National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, Dr Opoku Prempeh, widely known as Napo, said he had no personal interest in the contest and would leave the decision entirely to the delegates.
He said the party’s internal democratic process should be respected, arguing that it would produce the best possible outcome when delegates were allowed to exercise their judgment.
Asked about the elections taking place at the conference, Napo said: “The wisdom of the masses will prevail.”
Delegates from across the country have gathered in Kumasi to take part in a process that will influence the NPP’s future direction. Napo said the participation of delegates, and every vote cast, would help strengthen the party as it prepares for future elections.
The former 2024 running mate also commented on the NPP’s prospects in the 2028 general election, describing Ghanaian elections as consistently competitive.
“All Ghana’s elections have been tough and have been keenly contested, but at the end of the day, the wisdom of the masses will speak,” he said.
Napo expressed confidence in the NPP’s prospects during the next election cycle and backed Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s future political ambitions.
“The voters will decide who they think will give Ghana hope from 2029 onward, and they will elect that person. And I believe sincerely, it’s going to be Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP,” he said.
He also said he was pleased with the conduct of party supporters, delegates and candidates during the conference so far, as the party continues with the process of selecting its national executives.
The conference is bringing together representatives from across Ghana at a time when the NPP is considering its leadership and wider direction ahead of the next general election.
