The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is heading to court to challenge the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a rerun in some polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
The EC announced plans to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations, citing disputes over the authenticity of the December 7, 2024, election results. However, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong argues that the EC lacks the legal basis for a rerun in selected polling stations.
“The NDC knows that they lost the election,” Mr. Frimpong said. “We are in the NPP, shall stop at nothing in our quest to ensure that the power that has been respected and upheld by the democratic rights and sovereign will of the people of Ablekuma North, as expressed by them on December 7, 2024, is upheld.”
The NPP will file a court challenge against the EC’s directive, which Mr. Frimpong described as “whimsical” and “capricious”. “We shall file in court and challenge the whimsical, capricious directive by the EC,” he added.
