Non IATA travel and tours association formed

An association of tour and travel operators outside the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Non-IATA Travel Association, has been formed in Ghana to bring together industry players with similar interests.

The Association would focus on promoting tourism in the country and promote the interest of industry players.

Mr Aaron Amenyah, the Vice President of the Association, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said: “We are going to foster a good relationship between non IATA travel and tours, IATA travel and tours, all the airlines and create a job opportunity for all.”

Non IATA travel and tours companies have been neglected by most of the foreign airlines operating in Ghana, he said, explaining that, “The foreign airlines have stopped giving commissions to the non-IATA agency, so most of the travel agents are going out of business”.

Mr Amenyah said the Association would negotiate for consolidated fares on all airlines operating in Ghana to enable the smaller agencies to sustain their businesses.

“It’s time to put all hands on deck to save our economy,” he said.
