Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Bryan Acheampong has announced that the under-renovation Nkawkaw Sports Stadium will feature a new eight-lane running track, a move aimed at boosting high school athletics in the Kwahu area.
The stadium, which had fallen into disrepair for years, is currently undergoing reconstruction, with Dr. Acheampong, playing a leading role in driving the project forward.
Speaking to the media during a visit to the site, he clarified that the schools in the area sports activities at the venue.
“I am only helping to ensure that the field is in a state where we can play our local matches in Kwahu… especially the schools,” Dr. Acheampong explained. “You will remember that all the schools in Kwahu, this is where they have their athletics.”
He added that in addition to refurbishing the football pitch, the new design includes an eight-lane running track and a 100-metre sprint lane along the side, a feature intended to restore Nkawkaw’s historic role as the centre of school sports in the region.
“In the past several years, that has been curtailed,” he said. “So we are also creating the eight-track running lane and the 100-metre lane for them to be able to use the side of the field for their sports.”
Dr. Acheampong, who has represented the Abetifi Constituency since 2017, is one of the high-profile politicians eyeing the NPP leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections. His involvement in infrastructure and community-focused projects has become a central theme of his political narrative.
The stadium redevelopment has been welcomed by many in the local community, particularly educators and sports organisers who see it as a long-overdue revival of grassroots athletics in the Kwahu area.
