Health Care providers under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will now be paid more for services rendered to subscribers after the scheme reviewed its Tariffs and medicines Lists.
Health Care providers would now be paid 24 percent more for medicines covered by the Scheme. The new policy takes effect March 1.
The NHIA also reviewed the service tariffs by 27.5 percent.
According to the authority, the review was carried out to ensure that the monies it pays for medicines and services reflect current economic and market realities.
According to the NHIA, medicines covered by the scheme saw their prices going up by over 88 percent necessitating the increase.
The NHIA, however, said the cost of these increments would not be borne by the subscriber but the scheme.
There has, however, been a reduction in the number of medicines covered under the scheme.
