Madam Alice Asamani, Chief Executive Officer of Midwives For Women and Children Health, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has called on pregnant women to desist from taking hard drugs to ensure that they deliver healthy babies.
She said taking cocaine, ‘Wee’ and other hard drugs and also taking Akpeteshi and smoking could lead to delivering abnormal babies.
Madam Asamani made the call at the opening of a one-day workshop for Health Promoters, Support Group Members and Volunteer Women in Accra on Saturday.
It was aimed at equipping them with knowledge of giving support for pregnant women and also imparting knowledge on antenatal care.
Madam Asamani said there was also the need for pregnant women to visit hospitals very often to know their health status and desist from going to ‘Wayside’’ hospitals seeking medical care.
The Chief Executive Officer appealed to pregnant women to observe cleanliness and also control their eating habit.
Madam Asamani said the NGO would in the near future establish fee-free maternity in some selected communities in the country to cater for pregnant women and children.
She said the NGO would continue to fight to reduce mobility in the rural areas and also see that Ghana was free from preventable diseases.
