NFED to establish English classes at refugee camps

Half Assini (W/R), July 7, GNA – The Non-Formal Education (NFED) division of the Ministry of Education is to establish literacy classes at all the refugee camps in the country and introduce English as part of the programmes. The Jomoro District Coordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division, (NFED) of the Ministry of Education, Mr George Somiah, said this when he me= t with Zonal Supervisors and some staff of the division at Half Assini. He said due to language barrier, some of the refugees find it difficul= t to interact with Ghanaians, hence the need for the programme to enable them mingle with the Ghanaian community.

Mr Somiah said the refugee who can speak English and Ghanaians who can speak French would be engaged as facilitators. He said the NFED will soon introduced English skills in its entire literacy programme to rekindle the dwindled spirit of learners in the programme. Mr Somiah said research conducted by the division indicated that learners’ enthusiasm in reading, writing and numeric skills had dwindled hence the instruction of English programme.
