New Statesman eats humble pie; apologies to Springfield, Kevin Otchere

It appears sanity has finally prevailed over the matter of Springfield versus the New Statesman newspaper, as the paper has, in a recent publication, retracted its publication that sought to implicate Springfield group and its CEO Kevin Okyere in some corrupt dealings.

Following publication by the new statesman against Springfield group, an energy company operating in Ghana and Nigeria, and it’s young CEO Kevin Okyere, there were a plethora of publications drawn from the Statesman article in both Ghana and Nigeria subsequently.

Distressed by these publications, Springfield group took legal action and sued the New Statesman newspaper demanding Ghc30 million- the equivalent of 7 million dollars- for the irreparable damage done to its cooperate image and that of its CEO.

The legal action was reported by many media houses including peacefmonline. However, in a sharp change of events, the Statesman newspaper in its latest edition (Friday, October 16, 2015) has carried a front page banner titled; RETRACTION: REPORT ON KEVIN OKYERE AND SPRINGFIELD in which the paper expresses its profound apology for the publications for which they have been sued.

It is yet unknown if Springfield will, at this stage, discontinue the legal action brought against the Newspaper or not.

Kevin Okyere, who is said to be one of the youngest industry CEOs, according to a source in the company, is focused on his businesses in Ghana and Nigeria and is by no means going to let the publications affect him.
