Nestle promotes good nutrition in Tamale International School Complex

Nestle Ghana Limited, a leading health and wellness company, at the weekend held an educative and informative programme dubbed, ‘NIDO Nutrition School Day’ at the Tamale International School Complex in the Tamale Metropolis.

The campaign was aimed at educating caregivers and mothers about nutrition to ensure optimal growth of their children. Mothers and caregivers were offered the opportunity to learn about good nutrition through drama, interactive games and dancing.

They were also educated about balanced diets, importance of breakfast and the health benefits of iron, calcium and vitamins in right amounts in their diets, essential micro-nutrients which are found in NIDO.

Six mothers, who attended the programme, took part in a quiz held to examine their level of understanding in nutritional issues.

The mother of a class two pupil of the school, Hajara Sambo emerged the overall winner, securing a 500 Ghana cedis scholarship package for her son.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, Marketing Services Manager of Nestle Ghana Limited, Anita Ansu- Gyamfi underscored that Nestle as a global brand was not only committed to providing nutritious meals to consumers but educating consumers about nutritious diets.

She reiterated Nestle’s commitment to educating mothers and caregivers in order to promote balanced diets.

The Northern Regional Coordinator of School Health Education Programme (SHEP), Madam Benedicta Kafari commended Nestle for the initiative to complement the Ghana education Service to ensure health education in the region.

Madam Benedicta Kafari therefore appealed to Nestle to scale-up the initiative to the rural communities where nutritional levels of children are low.
