NDC congress: No speeches of ministers, candidates

There will be no speeches at tomorrow’s (Saturday) National Delegates’ Congress of the ruling NDC, the incumbent general secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has stated.

According to him, the move is to save time and allow the various arrangement made for the congress to move smoothly.

Speaking to the media at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium -venue for the congress – Friday, General Mosquito as he is popularly called, said most of the initial protocol arrangements made for the congress have been cancelled.

“For the first time in the history of this party, we are coming into elections with as many as 70 candidates, that tells you about the buoyancy of internal democracy in this party.

“Because of the huge number of candidates, it has been decided by the electoral committee that no opportunity will be granted to the various candidates to address the delegates before the voting takes place, for we are having to work with time constraints”.

He added: “The addresses of Ministers of key ministries have also been taken out because there is no luxury of time”.

“However, the various candidates will be introduced and their various numbers on the ballot paper will be mentioned.”
