Naval rating dies in motor accident

A 26-year old naval rating, Frank Anderson and one Blankson, 27, a civilian, on Monday met their untimely death when their unregistered motorbike was involved in an accident at Fijai.

Their corpses had since been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

The driver of the bus, Edward Williams, 48, had been arrested by the police and placed in custody while investigations continue.

The Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi on Monday.

She said the accident occurred around 1225 hours at Fijai, near “May Spot” along the Takoradi/Cape Coast main road.

She said a mini bus with registration number GC6272-11 was coming from the Takoradi direction of the road while the two riders were riding an unregistered motorbike without crash helmet entered the road suddenly from the side of the road without taking any precautionary measures with regards to the oncoming vehicle resulting in the crash.
