Kongo (U/E), July 5, GNA – Mr. Felix Gyemfi, Director of the National Service Scheme in charge of posting, has said more service personnel would be posted to rural areas in the three northern regions.
Mr. Gyemfi said this during a programme organised by the Talensi-Nabdam District of the National Service Scheme at Kongo.
He said from October the scheme would no longer post more people to urban centres like Accra and Kumasi but would rather send them to rural areas where their services are most needed.
Mr Gyemfi said after touring some schools in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions he found that many schools in the rural areas were without teachers and there were instances where one teacher handled all classes in the school.
The Public Relations Officer of the Scheme, Mr Ambrose Entsiwah, said plans were far advanced by the Scheme to get personnel of the service to go into agriculture and that the region would be cultivating maize from next year. He said the idea was to encourage service personnel to see farming as a full time business and to also increase food production and to ensure food security in the country. Mr Entsiwah said it was the ambition of the scheme to supply food items to the School Feeding Programme secretariat.
The District Director of the scheme in charge of Talensi-Nabdam, Mr Mike Zuri, told the service personnel that the Scheme offered them the greatest opportunity to serve the country apart from the experience they would acquire.
