NADMO Coordinator cautions against bush burning

Mr. Evans Osei-Worae, the Nkoranza Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has appealed to people in the Municipality to be cautious in handling naked fire to avoid fire outbreaks.

Mr. Osei-Worae, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, appealed to chiefs, assembly and unit committee members to support and to encourage fire volunteers to combat both domestic and bushfires in the Municipality.

He expressed concern about bush burning to trap game during every dry season and said “this is the time all the people should wake up to address such challenges in our midst.”

He cautioned the youth who organised themselves for group hunting to stop to avoid prosecution because the municipal assembly bye-laws against such expeditions were in force.

Mr. Osei-Worae said a group of young men from the Techiman Zongo Community annually came to some communities in Nkoranza for hunting during the dry season warned them to stop such “unfriendly environmental behavior.

He said measures were on the ground for the Nkoranza Municipal Fire Task Force to wage war against those illegal hunters.

He urged Religious leaders to use the pulpit to educate their members on the negative effects of environmental degradation, saying such interventions would arouse the conscience of the society on the dangers of engaging in activities that would cause destruction to the environment.
