Parliament has refuted rumors in the public domain about receipt of phones as a bribe from ZTE Corporation of China.
The House is surprised at the rumours making the rounds that Members were bribed with the ZTE phones during the approval of a supply contract for the delivery of dedicated security information system between the Government of Ghana and ZTE Corporation of China.
The issue surfaced on the Floor of the House on Tuesday when the MP for Kwesimintsim, Joe Baidoe-Ansah sought the Speaker’s direction for the records to be set straight on the alleged phone bribe.
Mr. Joe Baidoe-Ansah told the House that the said phone saga was cited during the anti-corruption day celebration by some commentators tagging the MPs as corrupt.
The Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the Phones were meant to enhance the work of the MPs whiles the Majority Leader, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour stated that the phones, which have been assigned to the constituencies are not the property of the individual MPs.
The Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho observed that the rumour is part of the occupational hazards of the MPs, and urged the public to take note of the explanations.
