MP appeals to churches to help curb crime

Ekumfi Asaman (C/R), June 1, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman East, Mr George Kuntu-Blankson, has expressed concern about the upsurge in crime despite the proliferation of Churches and appealed to religious organisations to do more to curb it. “The nation looks up to the Churches and other religious organizations like Islam to stop the social canker that plagues the country,” he said. Mr Kuntu-Blankson said this when he addressed a conference of Ekumfi branch of the Methodist Church Choirs at Ekumfi Asaman near Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality. The Conference brought together all Choirs in the Methodist Church to take stock of their activities and to plan for the future. He appealed to Ghanaians to allow the spirit of God to direct them in all their dealings. By so doing, they would continue to do what is good and right at all times because 93the Living God always gives what is good and right”. Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, the Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, expressed concern about the behaviour of some pastors whose activities are tarnishing the image of Christianity in the recent times and called on Churches to address the issue. The Very Rev S. de Graft Obiri, the Superintendent Minister in charge of the Ekumfi Circuit of the Methodist Church, praised Mr Kuntu-Blankson and Mr Hayfron for their support for the Church. Mr Kuntu-Blankson donated GH¢200.00, and a trophy to be awarded to the winner of a singing competition and pledged to pay for new choir robes for the Asaman Choir.
