Koforidua (Eastern Region) — THREE CLEAR weeks after the fuel price increase, some political activists in the Eastern Region continue to have different perceptions about the increases in fuel prices.
According to them, the fuel price increase was a calculated attempt by the President to cripple other political parties from reaching out to their followers nationwide.
Speaking to the Chronicle on condition of anonymity, a staunch NDC supporter described the fuel price increase as very “terrible.”
He said there is nothing justifiable about the increase, which has rather worsened the living conditions of Ghanaians.
The NDC guru challenged that there are several areas where the President can turn to generate revenue other than increasing fuel prices without attracting attention so fast.
Accordingly, if the NDC dragged its feet over some of these issues, then it was because of experience which taught them that such decisions could cause a lot of tension like what is happening now.
“They claimed, it was a bold decision to have been taken by the president. If he is bold, then he must also be careful of his actions which may cause a lot of disappointments,” he held.
The politician held that with the tension being created by the fuel price increases, the NPP will lose the 2004 general elections.
But the Eastern Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Alex Agbodo, says, it has rather won a lot of supporters as Ghanaians are now witnessing a government that does not hold the truth from the people.
He denied that the increase was a calculated attempt by the President to prevent other political parties from staging strong campaigns in the nation.
“We wanted to set the records straight by not doubling debts over our head like the NDC did,” Agbodo said.
