The Winneba Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 23-year-old ex-convict to a one year jail term with hard labour for unlawful entry and stealing mobile phones.
Joshua Ghansah, a native of Gomoa Awombirew, pleaded guilty when he re-appeared before Court after serving one month on remand.
Police Inspector Peter Agbelie told the Court presided over by Mr Alexander Oware that the complaints were Kofi Mensah and Kobina Mensah, both fishermen, and reside in the same house at the Roman Catholic School area in Winneba.
He said the accused was unemployed and had recently returned from prison after serving a three-month imprisonment for stealing two mobile phones at Fetteh, a community in Winneba.
Inspector Agbelie said on July, 31, at about 0300 hrs whiles the complainants were asleep, the accused took advantage to unlawfully enter their rooms and stole their mobile phones valued at GH?60.00 each.
He said the wife of one of the complainants, who left the room to begin her daily chores, met the accused coming from the room and she raised the alarm, which woke her husband and others in the house up.
Inspector Agbelie said the accused sensing danger tried to flee the scene but was apprehended and when he was searched two mobile phones belonging to the complainants were found in his pocket.
He was handed over to the police and in his caution statement he admitted the offence and pleaded for leniency.
