Mob attacks CEPS personnel at Wli-Afegame

Hohoe, April 30, GNA – Officials of Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), at Wli-Afegame, the Ghana-Togo border, were last Sunday attacked by a mob after the personnel impounded a taxi believed to be used for smuggling cocoa into Togo.

Noah Menyawovor who was driving the taxi with registration number GW 6146 P has been arrested with the assistance of the owner of the vehicle. Briefing GNA on the case at Hohoe on Thursday, Mr. Wilson Kudze, Hohoe District Police Commander, said CEPS officials chased the taxi after the driver ignored signals to stop and sped away.

The District Police Commander said the vehicle was later found abandoned at a spot with cocoa beans scattered in the booth and passengers’ compartment.

He said the CEPS officials engaged the services of a civilian to drive the taxi to the duty post where a mob assaulted them and pushed the taxi away.

Mr Kudze said that the taxi, which was found at a spot, was towed to the Police Station on Monday. He warned the public that the anti-smuggling taskforce would be ruthless with smugglers along the country’s frontier with Togo. 30 April 10 Attention recipients, item 03 ends first cast.
