Minister says government committed to developing north

Bolgatanga, May 13, GNA – Mr Mark Woyongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, on Friday reiterated government’s commitment to developing the northern sector.

He said it was to that effect that the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority had been established to promote the development of the three northern regions.

Mr Woyongo said this at a one day workshop on the District Wide Assistance Project (DWAP) for Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), Presiding Members (PMs) and Municipal District Coordinating Directors (MDCDs) in Bolgatanga.

DWAP, with funding from the Canadian International Development Authority (CIDA), provides sponsorship for the implementation of projects in the districts.

Mr Woyongo urged participants, who are implementers of the projects in the Districts and Municipalities, to ensure they were apt with guidelines and procedures for such projects.

He expressed regret about the attitude of some districts whose performance in the implementation of similar projects was unsatisfactory.

Mr Woyongo appealed to MDCEs, MDCDs and PMs to ensure such funds were appropriately utilized.
