Minister directs NHIA to improve service delivery

Health Minister, Sherry Ayittey, has directed the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to provide a comprehensive plan that will improve its operations.

This follows recent challenges that have bedevilled the scheme with various stakeholders refusing to provide services to card bearers.

In an interview with Joy News, Madam Ayittey said her Ministry is also working around the clock to end the perennial delays in payments of claims to service providers.

She said, “The delays of paying the providers they have looked at it and they want to improve the system so now they are talking about the capitation facility that they will give providers.”

The capitation facility, Sherry Ayittey explained, will give providers a lump sum of money upfront to provide service.

The Minister added that, “I have asked the authority to come out with a very comprehensive programme which I will lay before parliament, as the law stipulates, for approval and then we can implement.”
