Minister assures Ga chiefs of peaceful Homowo

Mr Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister has assured the chiefs and people in the region that he would them to ensure a peaceful Homowo Festival this year.

He said: “So long as there is peace in the region anyone who create unnecessary fear and panic to disrupt the Homowo festival will have him or herself to blame.”

Mr Afotey Agbo said this when he led a government delegations made up of Mr Nii Osa Mills, Minister of Lands and National Resources, Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije to present to the Ga Traditional Council assorted food items and drink for the Homowo festival slated for August 15.

He said government appreciates and recognises the efforts of the Ga Dangbe chiefs to ensure a peaceful Homowo and prevent violence.

The Regional Minister said he has authorised the police to let the law takes its course against those who would connive with anybody to cause confusion to disrupt the annual celebration of the festival.

Nii Afotey Agbo also warned against lawlessness that is becoming detrimental to the peace in the region and called on chiefs to advise their followers to be law abiding.

Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, who received the food items on behalf of the Ga chiefs, expressed gratitude to the President John Dramani Mahama for recognising the essence of Homowo Festival.

Ten stool houses identified for the distribution of the food and drinks are, Ga Mantse and Manye Palaces, Asere, Sempe, Gbese, Abola, Akumadzen, Otublohum, Nai We and Sakumo.
