Minister asks Boards to resolve labour disputes

Dr. Kweku Agyeman–Mensah, the Minister of Health, has appealed to the Governing Boards of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to resolve all labour disputes tactfully before they escalate.

He also advised the Governing Board members to devise innovative ways of mobilising financial resources to sustain and improve the performance of the sector in the midst of current financial difficulties.

Dr. Agyeman-Mensah said this when he inaugurated governing boards for the Komfo Anokye and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospitals in Accra.

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Governing Board is made up of 11 members with Dr. Kenneth Sagoe, a Former Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, as the Chairman and that of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is made up of 12 members with Dr. Anthony Mawutor Sallar, Senior Lecturer, GIMPA Business, as the Chairman.

He appealed to the board members to align themselves with the work of the Ministry for 2014 which is focused on accelerating the achievement of the MDG on maternal and child health, quality health care and good sanitation.

“Communicable and non-communicable diseases are also beginning to pose a threat to the health of our people, hence the need to intensify the health promotion and healthy lifestyles,” he said.

Dr. Agyeman-Mensah appealed to members of the two boards to provide strategic directions, good governance and sound management practices to support the operations of the two hospitals.

“The success of the two hospitals in fulfilling their respective mandates will depend to a large extent on your ability to steer their affairs,” he said.

He appealed to members of the two boards to take steps to stop all leakages in the system to avoid waste and money making by unscrupulous people.

Members of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital are Ms. Perpetual Annang, Mr. Henry Atta Paidoo, Mr. Kempes Ofosu Ware, Dr. Gilbert Buckle and Mr. Nurudeen Mohammed.

The rest are Madam Victoria Aku Quaye, Mr. Felix De-Corsah Eduful, Madam Jennifer Eileen Welbeck, Madam Evangeline Anyele Parkings, Dr. Samuel Asaimah and Madam Elizabeth Bruce.

Board members for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are Mrs. Joana Appiah-Dwomoh, Dr. Peter Boakye-Yiadom, Nana Amampene Boateng Twumm11 and Mr. Isaiah Offeh Gyimah.

The rest are Dr. Baffour Awuah, Mr. Anthony Kofi Mensah, Ms. Patience Yeboah Ampong, Prof Yaw Adu-Sarkodie and Mr. Elvis Kusi.
