Miner and farmer perish in separate incidents

An illegal miner and a farmer died in separate incidents on Tuesday in the Atwima-Mponua District.

The miner, Kofi Karikari, was killed when a mine pit he was digging for gold collapsed on him at Akomfre.

Rescuers had a hectic time removing tons of earth to recover the body.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ernest Fosu, District Police Commander, confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency, which happened at about 0900 hours.

Karikari was reported to have been the only person in the pit at the time.

The other incident involved a 35 year old farmer, Kwame Owusu, who got drowned as he attempted to cross the Offin River to his farm at Adiembra.

Both bodies had been deposited at the Toase autopsy.**
