Mills’ Volta Support Unshaken

THE SUPPORT base of ex-Veep, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region still remains unshaken.

This was evident in the warm reception accorded him when he visited Ho to pay his belated condolences to the chief and elders of the Ho-Asogli traditional area, following the final obsequies of their late Agbogbomefia, Togbe Afede Asor, II, nearly one month ago.

Prof. Mills, who described himself as an adopted son of Ho, was out of the country before the burial rites of his “Father,” the late chief of Ho.

Party loyalists and faithful, especially women, could not help bursting into frenzied jubilation as the sang “Wotsia wo gbadegbe ke,” meaning “the Professor has before long been elected as the next President of the Republic.”

The overwhelmed ex-Veep said it was important that he came to mourn with the council and to thank the Almighty God for giving “us this noble son who has left his foot prints.”

He prayed that the installation of a new chief will be done in a very united and peaceful atmosphere.

As custom demands the ex-Veep’s entourage, led by Hon. Modestus Ahiable MP for Ketu North and chairman of the Volta parliamentary, caucus presented two cartons of beer, two crates of minerals, four bottles of imported schnapps, one pot each of palm-wine and solom and a cash of ?1 million.

The Awafiaga of Ho, Togbe Adzi Lakle Howusu, XII, expressed his gratitude and appealed to the Veep to bring the feuding factions within the NDC together to ensure peace and unity.

He prayed that God’s plans for him concerning the country would be fulfilled for the common good of the country.

The ex-Veep later paid a courtesy call on Mr. John Nunyuie, the immediate past regional chairman of the NDC, who is recuperating after a protracted illness.

Other members of the ex-Veep entourage were Martin Amidu, 2000 running mate, Hon. Steve Akorlie, MP (Ho East), Hon, Kofi Attoh, MP (Ho Central), Akua Danso, MP (North Dayi), Cdm. Steve Obimpeh, Professor Mills campaign manager, and party executives in the region.
