Mfantseman District Assembly to sponsor the training of medical doctors

Mankessim, Jan 21, GNA – The Mfantseman District Assembly is to sponsor the training of two medical doctors every year, as a means of filling the vacuum created by the exodus of the health personnel for greener pastures. Beneficiaries of the sponsorship package, which starts next year, would be bonded to serve the District for at least five years. Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Acting District Chief Executive, announced this at a send off party organised by the District Assembly at Mankessim on Thursday for two Cuban Doctors, who have completed their two years duty at Saltpond Government Hospital.

They are Dr. Nival Shaid Martinez Artiles and Dr. Grisel Sanchez Bode.

Mr Quainoo-Arthur said the District Assembly in collaboration with the District Directorate of Health had initiated a programme to train a number of auxiliary health workers.

He commended the Cuban doctors for their commitment to duty despite the difficult working conditions they found themselves. Mr D.K. Koomson, District Coordinating Director, said the Assembly was always keen to promote health delivery services.

Dr Abraham Martey, Medical Superintendent in-charge of the Hospital appealed to the Assembly to help improve water supply system to the Hospital and provide accommodation for the nurses.

Mr Abraham Ato Aninful, Chairman of the Hospital’s Advisory Board asked the personnel to expose their colleagues who engage in dubious deals to cheat patients.
