Methodist Church organizes synod in Volta region

The 16th Synod of the Tema Diocese of the Methodist Church opened in Ho on Thursday under the theme, “Mobilizing our resources for mission, the Pentecost factor.”

It is the first synod to be held by the Methodist Church in the region since Methodism “spread to some parts of the Volta; Peki and Awudome, over 100 years ago,” the Right Reverend Winfred H.Y. Ametefe, Bishop of the Diocese has disclosed.

“As a son from this part of Ghana, it will never be said well of me if I didn’t break this,” he told the opening session of the Synod.

The visibility of the Methodist church in the Volta Region has been modest, and the synod was seen as an ice breaking event to step up its presence in the region and attract more indigenes through increased evangelization.

The diocesan office in Tema presented a brand new 4×4 Nissan double cabin pick-up and a motor cycle to the Hohoe Circuit of the Church for evangelism and pastoral work.

The Ho Circuit of the Church was also linked to the Ashiaman and Tema Circuit for support.

Solidarity messages were read by the Volta Regional Minister Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, the Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church and Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV, Fiaga of Ziavi traditional area.

Nii Afotey-Agbo said the Methodist Church’s doctrines and accomplishments in the spiritual and socio-economic spheres are very relevant to Ghana’s situation today.

He urged churches in the country to embark on a crusade to nurture responsible and faith filled citizenry, especially the youth, who were being dazzled by the negative side of globalization.

Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV urged the Methodist Church to organize more synods and events in the region to enhance its presence and appeal among the people.
