Four Media General journalists have been recognised at the 2026 Ashanti Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Excellence Awards, with honours across education, agriculture, community impact and sports journalism.
The awards, held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, celebrated journalistic work produced in 2025 and brought together media professionals from organisations across the Ashanti Region.
Emmanuel Owusu was named Best in Sports Journalism, taking the top award in a category recognising excellence in sports reporting.
Oscar Kwadwo Antwi Boasiako also secured a major prize, winning Best in Education Journalism for his work covering education.
Ibrahim Abubakar recorded two podium finishes. He placed third in Agriculture Journalism and was runner-up in Community Impact Journalism.
Kwame completed Media General’s list of award recipients by finishing third in the Community Impact Journalism category.
The journalists work across Akoma FM, Onua TV, TV3 and 3Sports and were among those shortlisted for the regional awards.
Their recognition reflects reporting on issues affecting communities, as well as coverage of education, agriculture and sport across the Ashanti Region.
This year’s ceremony was held under the theme: “Celebrating Excellence, Championing Credibility: Journalism in the Age of AI.”
The theme highlighted the importance of trustworthy, high-quality journalism as the media industry continues to operate in a rapidly changing environment.
The Ashanti Regional GJA Media Excellence Awards recognise work in a wide range of categories, including education, agriculture, community impact, health, business and economy, entertainment, environment, science and climate, photojournalism, sports and best feature production.
The honours further strengthen Media General’s presence among organisations whose journalists were recognised for public-interest reporting in the region.
