Kade, Dec. 28, GNA 96 Maternal mortality rate in the Kwaebibirem District decreased from 27 in 2005 to 12 this year, Dr Patrick Amo-Mensah, Kwaebibirem District Director of Health Service announced at Kade. He explained that 12 of the maternal deaths last year were from abortion and 10 from communities outside the District.
Addressing the Kwaebibirem District Assembly, Dr Amo-Mensah said efforts were being made to reduce maternal mortality and advised women, especially teenagers against abortion that could endanger their lives. He advised the assembly members to alert the police about activities of quack doctors operating in their areas.
Dr Amo-Mensah called on the people to embrace family planning and have children they could cater for to avoid unnecessary burdened. He advised pregnant women to attend antenatal clinic at least four times before delivery to ensure safe delivery. Dr Amo-Mensah expressed appreciation to the assembly for constructing a theatre at the Kade Health Centre and supporting the Kwaebibirem District Health Directorate during immunization exercises.
