Mason jailed 20 years for defiling minor

A 35 year old mason Isaac Teiko Tagoe was on Tuesday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a three and half year old girl at Akweteman, Accra.

This was after the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava had found him guilty on the charge of defilement.

Tagoe who had earlier on pleaded not guilty contended that he used his penis to ‘brush’ the victim’s vagina but failed to penetrate.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah told the court that the complainant in the case was a petty trader who resides at Akweteman with her daughter.

Tagoe, according to the prosecutor also resides at Akweteman, near Achimota in Accra.

ASP Acquah said the victim played with Tagoe’s nephew in the house. On August 24, last year, at about 1000 am, the victim returned from Tagoe’s house and informed the complainant that Tagoe lured her into his room, removed her pants and had sexual intercourse with her.

Prosecution said the complainant who also noticed some changes in the way the victim walked, proceeded to her brother’s house in the area and informed him about the matter.

A report was made to the Police at Tesano and a medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital. The case was later transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

Tagoe was arrested and in his cautioned statement he denied committing the offence.

However when Tagoe was sent to the crime scene, he confessed that, he only pushed the victim’s pants aside and used his penis to ‘brush’ the victim’s vagina but failed to penetrate.
