Many NDC voters in Sunyani East disenfranchised

Many members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were disfranchised in the parliamentary primary in the Sunyani East constituency.

According to Presiding Officers (POs) at the various polling centres in the Municipality, the voters were disqualified because their names could not be found in the register.

Though many of them held the Party’s Identification Cards, the POs told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the rules and regulations governing the primaries did not permit them to cast their ballots.

They expressed appreciation for the general comportment of the disqualified voters, when the GNA visited some of the centres in the Sunyani Municipality.

The disenfranchisement notwithstanding, voter turnouts were very poor at most of the polling centres in the Constituency.

Though voting started earnestly as schedule, the usual queues that characterised elections were absent.

Mr Kwasi Oppong Ababio, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive contested the primary with Mr Collins Mahama, the Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation in the constituency.
